The month of November is here and with it the beginning of the anticipated short rains albeit scanty and unpredictable:

With the changing climatic conditions what is the way forward, for African farming, in view of unreliable rains coupled with alternating droughts and floods?

There are largely two farming and food productions systems to choose from, namely:

  • Ecological organic agriculture and related food production system
  • Conventional farming and biotechnology lead agriculture food production system

Here are scientific reasons and cases studies of why you should choose ecological organic agriculture for SAFE food and nutrition security towards achieving the SDGs.

The month of October heralds many things least of which is that the end of the year is nigh. For those of us in the lifestyle and wellness business, we remember October as the Cancer Awareness month, generally, but more specifically as the Breast Cancer Awareness month. This is particularly poignant considering the rising incidence and prevalence of non-communicable diseases and breast cancer, in particular.

  • What is contributing to this rapid rise in cancer cases? A multiplicity of risk factors which are generally lumped  together as dietary and lifestyle related factors
  • But specifically, what are some of the environmental pollutants and contaminants that may be contributing to the rising cases of cancer and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs)?Answer: Agrochemicals used in conventional farming especially pesticides and herbicides have strongly been linked to different forms of cancer, especially BREAST cancer and PROSTATE cancer. The increasing USE of pesticides and herbicides in farming results in higher than the allowed maximum residue levels (MRLs) in foods for human consumption…with disastrous consequences to both human health and environmental health.
  • Do we have any evidence of the rising contamination arising from agricultural and food production activities especially PESTICIDE and HERBICIDE use?
  • YES. Here is the evidence: http://advances.sciencemag.org/content/2/8/e1600850.full

Good people,

The month of August is here and with it a flurry of activities…including “organic” activities and News Updates: These include:

  • The first ever agro-ecological organic Consumers workshop to be held on the 19th of August. Those invited, dedicated organic consumers, know the venue. The workshop is intended to provide scientific evidence on why agro-ecological organic food production systems are better than conventional systems, including in terms of better yield, productivity, more nutrient density and better health outcomes for farmers and consumers.
  • Did you know that there is increasing scientific evidence, including evidence of prevention and reversal of CANCER and obesity, through the right DIETs and related nutrient dense foods consumption? Dr. Willam Li, The President of the Angiogenesis Foundation, explains in a TED presentation: See link here:

Good people,

September is here and with it the Libra’s,( I am one them!) are in their element….aligning their passions with their purpose…creating awareness on using soil as the “pharmacy” to treat diabetes and the many chronic inflammatory conditions…do we have any evidence that soil is a rich and complex living microcosm? YES. WATCH this evidence:
